Fondly nicknamed 'the Tetris building' for wrapping around an existing 1901 tenement building on 9th Ave and 53rd St. The new building cradles the old brick structure, thrusting underneath the original building, up the side and over the top, fusing the two buildings together. Circumstances called for skillful engineering with the tenants residing in its existing apartments throughout the entire 24 months of construction and permits process. After careful planning and smart engineering, the Tetris was built. This project immediately became the subject for a controversial theme on several blogs. It constantly receives praise and debate around the Hells Kitchen area! |
